Resources to empower

Grade 12

Students’ final year of their K-12 education relies heavily on completing coursework and earning the required credits to receive a high school diploma. In addition, these young adults are preparing for the next step of their future whether that be entering college, a technical program or the workforce. Twelfth grade students should graduate from high school college and career ready. College and career readiness refers to the content knowledge, skills, and habits that students must possess to be successful in postsecondary education or training that leads to a sustaining career. They also have increasing self-awareness and identity, while building social problem-solving skills and focusing on the future.

Promoting the Educational Success of Children and Youth Learning English

Educating dual language learners (DLLs) and English learners (ELs) effectively is a national challenge with consequences both for individuals and for American society. Despite their linguistic, cognitive, and social potential, many ELs—who account for more than 9 percent of enrollment in grades K-12 in U.S. schools—are struggling to meet the requirements for academic success, and their prospects for success in postsecondary education and in the workforce are jeopardized as a result.
