Resources to empower

Grade 12

Students’ final year of their K-12 education relies heavily on completing coursework and earning the required credits to receive a high school diploma. In addition, these young adults are preparing for the next step of their future whether that be entering college, a technical program or the workforce. Twelfth grade students should graduate from high school college and career ready. College and career readiness refers to the content knowledge, skills, and habits that students must possess to be successful in postsecondary education or training that leads to a sustaining career. They also have increasing self-awareness and identity, while building social problem-solving skills and focusing on the future.

This collection of classroom videos and associated lesson materials was developed in 2013 to support K-12 educators implementing the Common Core State Standards. The videos are not intended to be exemplars as all of the participants were at that time, early in their work with those standards. Rather, they showed real-life classrooms, with all the real-life challenges and successes. These resources were created for and previously found on Teaching the Core, a website funded by The Leona M. and Harry B. Helmsley Charitable Trust.
